National Handmade Day

National Handmade Day is celebrated every year on the first Saturday of April. It’s a day to recognise handmade craftsmanship and the creatives who make one-of-a-kind treasures. From baked goods to pottery and knitting, this is a day that honours people who are passionate about their craft. Here at Kit Kemp Design Studio it always feels like National Handmade Day! We love to celebrate any piece that is made by hand and we want to avoid anything mass produced.

We’d like to share some recent and memorable items that we crafted by hand. We hope it inspires you to craft treasures for your home too.

BAKING

We have come up with a fun way to mix things up – combining food and fabric. We love both and thought ‘why not make food that celebrates our designs!’ Here we have transformed some of our favourite fabric designs into edible treats. This cake makes our Rick Rack design for Christopher Farr Cloth look even more delicious!

This chicken and leek pie has been made to look like our Travelling Light design.

PAINTING

Ellie Schicht is one of the most recent members to join our Design Studio and she is also a very talented artist. We have fallen in love with this portrait recently created by her. Ellie has delicately captured this dog’s expression and character with such elegance.

Here is Design Studio’s India Dickinson who hand painted this gorgeous lamp in block colours for the Julian Chichester Showroom at Design Centre in Chelsea Harbour.

EASTER CREATIONS

When it comes to decorating your table for an Easter Sunday breakfast, why not get creative with egg cup name places. This is such a fun and easy creation. Blowing eggs at Easter is a long heralded tradition and here we popped one in an egg cup and used an acrylic paint to make a simple design. Just make sure someone doesn’t try to crack one open! Find more of our favourite Easter crafts here.

SCRAPBOOKS

Some of our best ideas started on scrapbooks and we don’t know where we would be without them. We love experimenting with creative ways to display information. From paper collages to making pockets like this woven checkerboard. It’s such a great way to bunch together a collection of memories. Find our tips and ideas to help you with your scrapbook creations here.

ARTISTS CORNER

We always seek to encourage and promote the joy of craft and have admiration for so many craftspeople. Our recently launched Artists Corner at Shop Kit Kemp is a treasure trove of handcrafted artworks and limited edition pieces and brings you the opportunity to add inspiring one-off creations to your home.

Discover Robina Jack's ceramics and paintings at Artists Corner and in the Drawing Room at Ham Yard Hotel
