Fireplaces make great focal points and are a way to bring character into your home. As autumn approaches, we’d like to share our tips for fireplace styling. From colour and artwork to vases and mirrors, join us as we explore some examples…

A striking artwork or mirror will help your fireplace to become the centre of attention. In room 1106 at Crosby Street Hotel, we have a wooden framed mirror hung above the fireplace to add rustic charm. This brings the outside indoors and also creates interesting layers with its unique shape.

Throughout our hotels we have striking artwork above the fireplaces. In the Bloomsbury inspired Library at Charlotte Street Hotel, Vanessa Bell’s ‘Basket of Flowers’ painting adds a new dimension of colour to the space. Artworks are a great way to change the overall impression of a scheme.

All of our hotel Drawing Rooms feature fireplaces. We often include upholstered club fenders and use a cushioned fabric to add texture. Try incorporating fabric in unexpected areas. Find out how we use club fenders in our blog post here.

A contrast of colours is important! Here in The Soho Hotel’s Library we’ve added a vibrant vase with flowers to inject a splash of colour and energy.

In the Drawing Room at Crosby Street Hotel, we have combined art with simple objects. Vases are arranged in a line across the mantel, adding symmetry and creating a central point in the room. Don’t shy away from leaving spaces empty on your mantelpiece, sometimes less is more!

Even a non-functional fireplace can still ignite a spark! At The Whitby Hotel we have incorporated a beautiful artwork by one of our favourite artists Mimi De Baritz. The colourful artwork creates a playful and distinctive atmosphere, while adding the characteristic sense of warmth of a lit fireplace. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your artworks and mix and match colours.

Small accessories won’t go unnoticed – we say the devil is in the details! At Knightsbridge Hotel, you’ll find small and simple pieces making a big impact on the Library mantelpiece.

We hope this has inspired you to bring your fireplace to life. Head to Artists Corner at Shop Kit Kemp where you’ll find more ideas for decorating the mantelpiece.
