At our Design Studio we are known for our unexpected and expressive schemes and this week, we’ll be focusing on living and dining seating. Here are some examples of how we inject a sense of fun through furniture…
In The Croc Bowling Alley at Ham Yard Hotel, the seating is an artwork in itself. The simple shape of this South African made sofa allowed the frame and cushions to be covered in the most fun and eclectic way. With its large scale pictorial fabrics, this piece is a real show stopper that takes colour inspiration from the monumental Howard Hodgkin artwork behind.
Another statement piece, this time at The Whitby Hotel, takes inspiration for the artwork which sits above. You can find one of your own beautifully appliqued Wing chairs from Shop Kit Kemp.
Making a statement with your upholstery shouldn’t be at odds with being bold on the walls and with artwork. We suggest mixing up different seating types and fabrics in larger spaces. Go big or go home as they say! All of the colours on the chairs at The Crosby Bar have been guided by the woven stripes on the banquette seating.
In our Library at Charlotte Street Hotel, a mismatched pair of Wing armchairs flank the fireplace and the ‘Basket of Flowers’ painting by Vanessa Bell. Having these armchairs placed near the fireplace makes for a cosy reading nook and an inviting, intimate space. The bright embroidery makes an artistic and balanced statement in this Bloomsbury inspired room.
The great outdoors are the perfect chance to go bright with your seating and accessories. You can really go all out, as we did here with our design collaboration with Annie Selke.
We also love this incredibly soft, squishy and comfortable Maker and Son ‘Otter’ sofa using our Christopher Farr ‘Ozone’ design. A wonderful pop of colour in this bright white room!
We love to see how you’ve used our fabrics in your own designs. Here a modular sofa and matching ottoman by Lorfords has been covered in our ‘Lost and Found’ weave for Christopher Farr.
We hope this will offer some guidance and inspiration for when sourcing seating in your own home!
