The Kit Kemp Design Studio is known for its organic textures and natural materials. However, we have been known to use metallics and luscious gold tones to give luminosity and add warmth to a space.
Adding a dash of the unexpected is part of what makes an interior well thought out and pleasantly unpredictable. Just like gold, using silver as an accent or focal point is a way of breathing a fresh and modern twist into any interior. That said, silver isn’t the easiest finish to use, unlike gold it isn’t naturally warming, so we’ve gathered some of our favourite ways to bring silver into an inviting scheme…
Lighting Accents
At Crosby Street Hotel, our desk lamps are a take on a mid century modern classic. These large silver orbs lift the room, creating an eye catching contrast. The form of these lamps isn’t too overbearing, they bring a sense of balance into the space.
In the Sandra Blow Room at The Soho Hotel, we flanked the beautiful Carla Kranendonk artwork with these silver orb constellation sculptures. They create symmetry to the space. This bright shock of silver is underpinned with hot and fiery oranges and block patterns that balance the whole look and feel of this room.
A Sculptural Addition
One of our more important pieces of artwork sits in Haymarket Hotel’s lobby. The fluid steel sculpture by Tony Cragg is contemporary, yet it is juxtaposed perfectly by the ornate Louis XVI inspired furniture. In an entrance space, an eye catching focus point is key to create drama and intrigue.
Make it a Moment
At Ham Yard Hotel, instead of using silver as an accent to the space, silver takes centre stage. Since the bar scheme is filled with moody and dramatic hot tones and a fun and playful yellow walling, we are able to use silver in abundance without it feeling clinical and cold. The bar top is a wonderful and classic silver pewter top, which we have paired with these great little silver bar tables to create a real statement. These shiny and bright surfaces capture candle light beautifully. They add a twinkle and spark of light within the overall scheme.
Careful Styling
Crosby Street Hotel’s lobby is more like a gallery than a traditional hotel reception. It is filled with some of the most important pieces in our collection. Our Anselm Keifer is one of our more famous pieces and whilst it’s singularly spectacular, the way it has been styled makes it even more special. We paired it with an organic wooden bench which is dressed up with beautiful flower arrangements by Lewis Miller. We added in this tall silver movie set lamp to bring texture and intrigue to the scene. With the abundance of nature and organic shapes, it was important to add a more industrial object like the tall silver lamp – we are in a New York hotel after all!
Tablescape Secrets
Tablescapes are an important part of an interior, especially these days when so many evenings are spent at home. Those all important details create a dining scene that has gravitas. Silver is a fail safe to make a dining experience feel special. Silver tableware is classic and timeless, and it adds a fresh zing and added texture.
Across the lobby and around the corner, this Francois Bard painting sits above a grandmother of pearl console table. Need we say anymore? This is one of our favourite combinations and this silver table does all the talking. Again, there is that delicate balance between earthy and modern.
Whilst silver isn’t the first tone you think of in a warm and layered interior, it’s an important part of the makeup of a room’s story. We hope this collection of silver interiors inspires you to add a touch of silver to your own schemes.
