Whether filled with wildflowers gathered on a morning walk, displayed as a handcrafted ceramic, or woven playfully into a fabric pattern, pots bring creativity, craftsmanship and character into the home. Today, we are sharing some of the many ways we use pots throughout our interiors, from beautiful decorative objects to unexpected sources of colour, pattern and inspiration.
At Warren Street Hotel, traditional terracotta pots have been given a playful twist. A collection of small potted plants, arranged at varying heights on an antique side table, brings life and charm to this colourful corner. Set against bold, painterly artwork and beside a vibrant patchwork armchair, their earthy tones provide a natural counterpoint to the joyful mix of colour and pattern. Filled with greenery and flowers, they gently blur the boundary between indoors and out, bringing a fresh sense of the garden into the heart of the hotel.
More recently, at Treasure House Art Fair, we used a wonderful assortment of pots and greenery to divide the restaurant space and soften the surroundings. Arranged along the top of the colourful striped banquette, terracotta pots sit alongside woven baskets and characterful planters in a variety of shapes, sizes and heights. The layered display creates a natural screen between the dining areas while bringing warmth, texture and a fresh garden feel to the scheme.
One of our favourite fabrics by Osborne & Little features beautifully embroidered pots overflowing with foliage. Used here on a playful scalloped headboard, its bold scale and rich colours create the effect of a striking still life painting.
For this Caribbean home, we chose the fabric’s blue colourway. Used across the headboard, curtains and cushions, its turquoise accents and crisp white embroidery bring together the room’s many shades of blue, creating a calm yet characterful space.
At our Design Studio, we have always loved decorating with objects that feel collected rather than curated, and pots appear throughout our interiors in unexpected ways. In the Drawing Room at Warren Street Hotel, a chinoiserie vase was given a second life as a lamp, transforming a decorative object into something both practical and beautiful.
These sculptural ceramic pots have also been transformed into statement lamps, hand painted in soft chalky whites and earthy neutrals with expressive abstract brushstrokes. Finished with our Puff fabric lampshades, they celebrate craftsmanship while adding another layer of texture and warmth to the hotel lobby.
Pots also provide the perfect canvas for craftsmanship. Whether thrown on a wheel, hand painted or carefully carved by skilled artisans, no two are ever quite the same. Their imperfections are precisely what make them so beautiful.
Perhaps that is why we return to pots time and time again. We even enjoy getting our hands dirty at pottery classes here in London, creating our own wonderfully imperfect pieces.
After all, a pot is never simply a container. It holds flowers, memories and creativity, bringing nature indoors and adding a deeply personal touch to the home.
