Small but mighty, an end of bed stool (EBS) makes a practical and stylish addition to any bedroom. Whether it’s used for placing bags after a day’s shopping or for somewhere to perch whilst tying a shoelace, an EBS has prominence. We explore the many ways an EBS can be purposed as well as some examples of how we’ve incorporated them into our schemes.
It’s important to ensure your EBS is the right scale for the bedroom. We recommend they are just narrower than the width of the bed and aren’t too tall and cumbersome. This prevents the EBS from competing with the bed itself. An EBS can be a great way of bringing pops of colour and texture to a space and in room 407 at Charlotte Street Hotel, we’ve upholstered ours in a vibrant red broadcloth with a fun double-dot trim at the bottom. Its bold colours harmonise with the other accents of red throughout the bedroom and draw attention towards the bed.
At Crosby Street Hotel’s room 307, a geometric fabric adorns this EBS. Its large scale patterns help the piece stand out, whilst its colours connect with other tones of blue within the space.
In room 410 at The Soho Hotel an EBS has been upholstered in a combination of warm red leather and an aqua blue chevron fabric. These small-scale chevrons create a sense of movement and complement the headboard’s undulating zig-zags.
Available from Shop Kit Kemp and beautifully placed in Crosby Street Hotel’s room 205 is our EBS covered in ‘Ribbon Weave Aqua’ from Kit Kemp’s collection with Christopher Farr.
At Knightsbridge Hotel, we have opted for a non-upholstered EBS. This wooden piece contrasts well against the crisp white bedspread, adding even more warmth to the autumnal tones of the bedroom.
At One Denman Place the size of this apartment bedroom has allowed for a larger EBS to be used. It has been upholstered in antique fabric, with embroidery and small shimmering mirrors that add character and movement. Its textiles also bring colour and warmth to the scheme.
In a scheme we’re currently working on for a room at The Soho Hotel, a French antique bench has been our starting point for the design. It has been upholstered in Kit Kemp’s Ashenwood fabric created with Chelsea Textiles. The EBS’ elegant tapered legs and caned back add character to the room and we can’t wait to share the scheme with you soon – watch this space!
We also love Annie Selke’s ‘Rug’ benches which make great end of bed stools. The ‘Multi Frieda Rug’ bench is covered in ‘Hotline’ whilst the ‘Rug Benches’ are available in green and blue ‘Safety Net’ colourways from Kit Kemp’s new collection for Annie Selke. This collection of rugs, cushions and bedspreads is full of cheerful, bold colours and bring energy to any space. You can shop the newly launched collection here.
