Step inside Suite 1402 at The Whitby Hotel, a celebration of pattern, texture and artistry. Showcasing some of our newest fabric collections for Andrew Martin, Chelsea Textiles and GP & J Baker, the suite is designed to spark curiosity, inviting guests to slow down, look closely and uncover the many layers within.
As you enter, your eye is immediately drawn to the bespoke bookcase, painted in a striking shade of blue. Framed by antique mirrored panels and illuminated by warm lighting, it creates an inviting focal point that encourages you to pull up a chair, choose a book and settle in for the afternoon. Rich rust-coloured walls envelop the room, creating an atmosphere that feels both welcoming and uplifting.
From this cosy corner, the details begin to reveal themselves. Romantic curtains upholstered in our Hearty fabric for Andrew Martin frame the windows beautifully, while the same design appears on the desk wall, a subtle detail that quietly brings the scheme together. Our Bobbin fabric introduces another layer of pattern, while deep navy accents provide balance and sophistication. On the sofa, Jogalong from our GP & J Baker collection brings movement and energy to the room. A smart yet playful stripe is always a favourite of mine, offering a timeless quality that never feels out of place.
Above the sofa hangs a carefully curated collection of artworks, including a piece by Mimi de Biarritz. We love layering artwork in much the same way we layer fabrics and trims. This approach creates depth, personality and a sense of discovery, encouraging guests to notice something new each time they look around the room.
The dining area is brought to life with chairs upholstered in vibrant shades of yellow, red and navy wool. Whether enjoying breakfast as the city awakens or a quiet evening meal overlooking the Manhattan skyline, the space feels intimate while remaining connected to the energy of New York beyond.
We believe outdoor spaces are every bit as important as interiors and the terrace of Suite 1402 is no exception. Here, colour and comfort continue outdoors through generous planters, layered textiles and inviting seating. Cushions upholstered in our Lost and Found fabric brings a playful spirit to the terrace, while an Annie Selke rug helps create an outdoor room that feels just as considered as the interior. Shades of blue woven throughout the upholstery echo the sky beyond, creating a seamless connection between inside and out.
As you move into the bedroom, you are greeted by the suite’s most enchanting feature: an extraordinary hand appliquéd headboard created by the talented artist Basak Agaoglu. Taking centre stage, this remarkable piece is entirely hand sewn and embroidered, transforming the room into a dreamlike landscape. Inspired by our Rain or Shine fabric for Chelsea Textiles, which adorns the curtains, the headboard depicts a whimsical moon nestled amongst clouds and stars. Look closely and you will discover a face hidden within the moon itself, quietly watching over the room.
The warm glow of this celestial scene is echoed throughout the bedroom in our Puff fabric for Andrew Martin, which wraps the walls and creates the feeling of gazing up at a star-filled sky. Rich colours, intricate embroidery and exceptional craftsmanship combine to create a space that feels both magical and comforting. Learn more about Basak Agaoglu and the story behind these remarkable headboards here.
To complete the scheme, we layered luxurious wools, tactile trims and bespoke furnishings, each carefully chosen to complement the story of the room. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered, creating a suite rich in character, craftsmanship and charm.
Suite 1402 is a room that rewards curiosity. From handcrafted details to unexpected moments of colour and artistry, every corner offers something new to discover. After all, the very best rooms are those that tell a story and Suite 1402 has countless stories waiting to be uncovered.
