Room 117 at The Soho Hotel

Sleeping Around

Step inside Room 117 at The Soho Hotel...

In winter, when the light softens and the days draw in, an orange hue brings a particular kind of warmth to an interior. It glows rather than shouts, offering comfort and optimism in equal measure. Used thoughtfully, orange has the ability to lift the spirit while creating a sense of intimacy, wrapping a room in a welcoming atmosphere that feels especially comforting during the colder months.

In the drawing room, this warmth is layered through a rich collage of pattern and texture. The walls are wrapped in our Hideaway fabric for Christopher Farr Cloth. Its intricate detailing and layered geometric forms create depth and character, and against the winter light the colour feels warm and enveloping, setting the tone for a space that is both energising and relaxed.

The sofa is upholstered in Diego Sand from our Kit Kemp x Andrew Martin collection. Its vivid geometric shapes and embroidered-style zigzags feel artisanal and expressive, flowing in confident lines and symbolic forms that bring movement and rhythm to the room. Familiar yet bold, it anchors the space beautifully, offering a calm counterpoint to the richer tones elsewhere while remaining full of life.

We used Bobbin Sunshine from the same collection for the cushions, ottoman and Kit’s Wing Chair, introducing a brighter note. Its playful palette and nostalgic golden pattern catch the light beautifully, lifting the room and echoing the orange hues throughout.

Next to the nineteenth-century floral-painted armoire sit the dining chairs upholstered in Hotline Orange from the Kit Kemp x Christopher Farr collection. The vibrant stripe brings a dynamic punch to the space, while the appliqué detail on the back adds a joyful, tactile moment that catches the eye and rewards closer inspection.

In the bedroom, a handmade appliqué headboard becomes a true focal point. Adding a personal touch is essential when creating interiors that tell a story. From the initial sketches and the careful cutting of each piece of coloured fabric through to needlepoint and final assembly, the headboard is crafted as a unique artistic piece. No two are ever the same, and that individuality gives the room its soul.

Together, these layers of orange tones create a winter retreat where colour comforts, craftsmanship speaks and every element works in harmony. We hope you have enjoyed this glimpse into Room 117 at The Soho Hotel. Explore more of our hotel schemes in our Sleeping Around blog series here.
