Tucked away from the bustle of South Kensington, Number Sixteen Hotel rests serenely within a row of elegant Victorian townhouses. Each room is a vibrant celebration of colour and in today’s blog we are delighted to offer a glimpse inside the newly refurbished Room 008.
From the moment you step inside, the mood is set by tranquil sky-blue walls, a fresh and calming backdrop that transforms the room into a peaceful sanctuary. The bed takes centre stage with the sculptural Flora headboard, upholstered in Knight’s Tale in sage blue, one of our fabrics for GP & J Baker. The design reimagines sixteenth-century pastoral scenes, weaving narrative and history into the space while giving it a distinctly contemporary twist. Wide nickel studding and a denim-blue wool border lend a crisp, tailored finish.
The same denim-blue wool appears on the bed cushion piping, the bed valance and in the detailing of the Handle Chair, creating a quiet sense of cohesion that never overwhelms the intimacy of the space.
Framing the bed, artwork in wooden frames reflects the tones found in the fabrics, subtly pulling the scheme together.
Opposite the bed, French doors open onto the hotel’s leafy courtyard, offering a secluded nook perfect for an early breakfast or a quiet moment of reflection. To throw these doors open on a still morning, before the city awakens, is one of the room’s simple yet memorable pleasures.
Because the room is compact, too many fabrics and patterns would risk overwhelming the space, so the same playful fabric has been used for the curtains and the bed cushions to maintain a cohesive and airy feel.
In front of the windows sit two Min’s Tub chairs, upholstered in a sunshine-yellow woven fabric. Their cerulean-blue leather piping provides a sharp, tailored contrast, introducing a touch of contemporary style.
On either side of the antique desk, floor-to-ceiling bookcases bring character and a sense of understated grandeur. Painted in the same soft blue as the walls, they blend seamlessly into the room while offering the perfect stage for books and carefully chosen accessories.
Room 008 combines classic storytelling fabrics with refined modern detailing to create a space that feels both characterful and calm. It is a charming retreat, designed for comfort and we hope you will have the chance to experience it for yourself.
