It’s all about Kit Kemp’s ‘Peace and Love’ fabric for Christopher Farr when you enter room 309 at The Soho Hotel. The striped fabric walls greet you in the entrance hallway before you turn the corner into this sunny new room.
With a beady eye one may notice that this fabric flashes up throughout the room as a piping detail created on the bias of the fabric. This is a fun little trick we like to use to create a delicious candy cane finish you won’t see anywhere else.
Picking out the emerald and amber hues, a hand-painted chest of drawers makes a statement with its whimsical design by one of our favourite artists Mimi De Biarritz.
Above the drawers is a framed woodblock print depicting a scene from Alice and Wonderland. If you’re looking for inspiration for artwork in a room why not photocopy your favourite image from a book and have it framed? Or frame up some gorgeous wrapping paper – creating your own art installation doesn’t always have to be expensive to look fabulous.
Once settled into the room, gaze upon the onion shaped headboard upholstered in Queens Sampler Fabric by GP & J Baker. Inspired by Historic Royal Palaces, elements of their spectacular architecture, gardens and interiors have been assembled to create these dazzling designs which can also be found on the sofa scatter cushions and our signature Firmdale mannequin.
Hanging next to this print is a framed tapestry that was spotted on Kit’s travels in Udaipur in India. Beautifully intricate and hand crafted, the contrast of print and fabric gives the room depth and frames the sofa nicely.
Sit back and relax on our new style sofa bed covered in Anatolia Stripe by Jim Thompson No. 9 in sky blue and spicy limes. Put your feet up on the Three Plank Coffee Table available from Shop Kit Kemp. Or, feast from menus crafted by our Executive Head Chef Joe Fox as you sit in the Leo deep buttoned armchair.
The curtains are another Kit Kemp design for Christopher Farr utilising a painted flower artwork by Natasha Hulse. The fabric is called Tasha’s Trip. Hulse is an artist from Salisbury living and working in London. She paints, cuts and dyes fabrics to make wonderful headboard appliques, lampshades and screens. She co-hosted our first Craft Workshop Weekend held last October and this year she exhibited at Chelsea Flower Show. You can read more about her work in our Meet the Maker blog here.
