Take a peek into room 901 at Crosby Street Hotel, a cheerful and bright space with sweeping views of downtown Manhattan.
The inspiration for this room starts with William Yeoward’s “Malati” fabric on the curtains. I loved the shape and colours of the pomegranates within the pattern and was inspired to replicate that motif on the romantic Flora headboard.
The deep and juicy tones of the pomegranate make a bold impact when paired with the soft but grounding blue wool on the headboard. A hint of the same blue shines through on a hand printed linen by Rapture & Wright on the walls. The pattern provides subtle movement, but its neutral backing creates an overlying sense of calm within the room.
On the bed pillows, we’ve used a favourite Penny Morrison print. The raspberry tones pair perfectly with the motifs sewn onto the headboard. The smaller scale of the pattern in these pillows balances the bursts of pomegranate overhead and on the curtains.
Dark blue wool piping on the sofa makes it feel tailored and adds an extra layer of detail.
When using pattern on the walls and draperies, it is smart to add large expanses of a textured plain so as to not overwhelm the senses. We have done this here on the sofa, bed valance and headboard base.
On the window cushions and the desk chair, I’ve used another heavy weight Christopher Farr fabric from my collection, “Woven Ribbon” in Indigo.
This sophisticated but playful stripe sits in perfect harmony with the other patterns in the room. A light blue leather adds the finishing touch in both uses – the top third of the desk chair and the piping on the window cushions.
These varying shades of blues and magentas were so much fun to play around with, and make for a joyful and relaxing room to come home to.
We hope this post puts room 901 at Crosby Street Hotel at the top of your list!
