This week we want to celebrate one of our favourite suites at Charlotte Street Hotel – Room 500.
Nestled at the top of the hotel, this cosy but spacious suite includes a living room and a separate bedroom area, which overlooks the bustling streets of Bloomsbury.
As you enter the living room, you immediately feel at home with this warm and inviting scheme. The walls have been upholstered in a smart and handsome ticking stripe by Robert Kime – one of our all-time favourites. It looks so chic on the wall, and also elevates the space as the vertical lines draw the eye up, making the room seem taller.
Flanking the stone fireplace are two good looking William IV armchairs, which have been upholstered in a combination of fabrics – a peachy orange tweed on the front and a chalky blue wool on the sides. This is a simple way to create a considered and bespoke piece of furniture.
To make the most of the space, we have added built-in bookshelves within the alcoves. Not only does this make the room feel cosy and romantic, but it also disguises the awkward shaped niche next to the window making the room seem more symmetrical.
Retire to the bedroom and you’ll see Kit Kemp for Chelsea Textiles ‘Ashenwood’ covering the headboard. This fabric was inspired by a beautifully intricate and hand-crafted fabric Kit found on her travels. It has also been used for the bed cushions, backed by a relaxed rose coloured linen called Volterra by C&C Milano.
The same fabric combination we used for the armchairs in the living room has been used to cover the curved end of bed stool. The tub chairs in the bedroom have also been upholstered in the sofa cushion fabric from the living room – we often do this to create a flow between spaces.
Opposite the fireplace is a large comfortable sofa, which has been upholstered in a chunky fabric by Manual Canovas – the wide striped blue and white textile is sophisticated yet comfortable and durable. To dress the sofa, we have added scatter cushions by Martyn Lawrence Bullard.
Much of the artwork throughout Charlotte Street Hotel celebrates the life and work of The Bloomsbury Group who lived and worked in the local area. The hotel is home to many of their original pieces and inspired fabrics and artworks are woven into the character and design throughout. Hanging on the wall here in Room 500 are two framed Hogarth Press covers, a publishing house which was founded by Virginia and Leonard Woolf in 1917.
We hope these details make for a cosy and comfortable suite. Escape the bustle of London and head up to the rooftop for some rest and relaxation!
