I walked through Soho this morning and it really feels like spring time. Instead of the evanescent skylark’s warbling we were faced with a different creature, one which seems to have been in hibernation for about a year… Jim Morrison locks, grubby old converse high tops and a multi-coloured open jacket peeping round the corner on Berwick Street, another one with long ginger curly hair cascading over a ripe bottom adorned in teal and pink tie dye lycra – the local Soho-lites are back in town and we want to welcome them to the perfect spot!
Room 211 at The Soho Hotel is our ode to “Psycho Sprig”, a hand-painted floral design created by Kit Kemp for Andrew Martin. Digitally printed onto gorgeous linen it is the perfect weight for curtains and cushions – but we love it so much we wanted to cover the entire room with its electric blues, pinks and splashes of red.
More is more and at the Kit Kemp Design Studio we aren’t afraid of mixing patterns. Take the curtains. Here we have put “Fruiting Fig Berry” on a natural linen by Botanica Trading next to deep buttoned window seat cushions in Psycho Sprig. Perfect for a quiet moment whilst you look out on the bustling streets of Soho.
This sunny front facing room has large floor-to-ceiling industrial Crittall windows so is filled with light, but if it’s fresh air you’re after, pop downstairs for a Bloody Mary under the twinkling lights of our new outside eating area. Totally covered and fully heated you are protected from all the elements. Not to be missed!
Again playing with pattern and scale, we have used a small scale Susanna Davis “Akbar” hand-block style print on the statement headboard, nicely framed by a Moon denim wool and a red Samuel and Sons leather piping. The bed cushions are a wonderful chunky knit embroidered fabric called “Marguerite” by Schumacher. This is an expensive fabric so we have used a panel for the front and used an Ian Sanderson woven fabric for the back face and piping.
For upholstery we have used a mixture of heavyweight fabrics including Ian Sanderson “Gara” in cobalt for our albany sofa bed design paired with a funky mixture of cushions that use Anna French’s “Tansman” fabric both here and on the tailored Toby chairs.
