This week for Sleeping Around we are taking a closer look into one of our favourite suites at The Soho Hotel, Room 500. This spacious top floor suite has a large bedroom and a separate sitting area with a fireplace. The ceilings are high and there are tall Crittall windows with doors leading onto a large terrace, where you can look out over the rooftops of Soho.
Adorning the walls of both the bedroom and the living area is beautiful fabric by Harlequin. At first glance it looks like a plain soft green/blue linen, however, when you look closely it has so many different colourful flecks and tones within it. It gives the walls a more textured look.
The fabric has so much detail and colour, it’s almost like an antique tapestry. It’s incredibly romantic and whimsical, I could look at it all day.
Around the outside of the headboard is a row of small bronze antique studding which continues this romantic story. ‘Windrush’ has also been repeated on the bed cushions giving a sense of harmony.
The floral shaped headboard has been upholstered in Lewis and Wood’s only embroidery, called ‘Windrush’. The design is based directly on a piece of work by William Morris’ talented daughter, May.
Opposite the bed are two tub chairs which have been covered in two separate materials. The main fabric is a large herringbone wool by Sequanna. The top third of the chair is lined in a rich aqua blue leather by Moore and Giles. These colours really draw out the hues within the curtain fabric, Lewis & Wood’s ‘Pashmina’ design.
The large armchair on the right is upholstered in George Spencers’ ‘Matchstick’ fabric, in the olive colourway. This same fabric can be seen on the back of the scatter cushions too.
Walking through into the sitting room, there is a large sofa which has been upholstered in the same herringbone wool as the tub chairs in the bedroom. The sofa scatter cushions have been made up in ‘Windrush’, which connects the two spaces and creates a flow. Either side of the door frame are comical drawings of typically British dressed men and women.
Either side of the sofa are bold pleated lampshades which give the room that extra punch.
The two chairs in front of the window opposite have been covered in soft dove grey boiled wool, and piped in a bright aqua leather by Moore and Giles.
The curtains have been made up in a striking geometric fabric by Mulberry, where the subdued tones within the stitching bring the whole scheme together.
Above the fireplace is a large square mirror, which reflects the sunlight throughout the entire suite all day long. Even on a rainy day, this space is flooded with natural light.
The Soho Hotel is now back up and running, we can’t wait for you to come and stay!
