I spotted this Pierre Frey fabric ‘Kong’ in the Boussac collection; it is a stunning linen, entirely embroidered by hand with natural braided raffia. It reminds me of being on a beach in a far flung land, making finger drawings in the sand while drinking spicy Micheladas. I knew I had to use it for this new room at The Soho Hotel.
Continuing with the theme of exploration and travel, I decided to pair the fabric with Lewis & Wood’s ‘Palmyra’ geometric linen print. The design is based on an Asian applique quilt – with every meter sold, £2 is donated to The British Red Cross Syria Crisis Appeal.
I decided to use it on one feature wall and the headboard, using a pale sky blue wool on the depth of the Flora shaped headboard to make it pop against the zingy olive Designers Guild linen on the walls.
My fabric design ‘Criss Cross’ in the green colourway for Christopher Farr Cloth has been used on the sofa, end of bed stool and handle chair, combined with a yellow Designers Guild linen pipe to add definition.
I wanted to create some bold bed cushions using a combination of three plain ‘Brera Lino’ Designers Guild linens. The strong colours against the more traditional headboard lift the scheme and give the room a more contemporary feel. I sent this little sketch to my upholsterer who managed to work his magic.
These fun, bright and bold pictures look great above the sofa.
