Apartment 15 at Ham Yard Hotel is our tranquil refuge from the busy streets of Soho. This two bedroom apartment is one of the 24 abodes in One Denman Place, which adjoins the hotel.
Upon entering the calming living room with white-washed grainy striped walls, you are welcomed by an open-plan dining and drawing room with a palette of soft blues and neutrals with a hint of sage.
When working with neutrals, its always a good idea to use texture to bring depth into a room. We have done just that with the off-white Abbott & Boyd fabric on the curtains, with a Clementine Oliver woollen leading edge. Let’s not forget about the tactile Lelievre Tassil fabric with its chain-like two-tone design on the sofa.
Just in front of the fully-equipped Boffi kitchen is a small circular dining table, with four Handle Chairs upholstered in Schumacher’s ‘Sofia Diamond’ fabric in grey with a green leather pipe, complementing the sage console table behind.
Two beautiful plaster Porta Romana lamps with Fermoie lampshades in a soft blue frame the sofa.
The ‘Royal Snail’ fabric in a sage colourway on the cushions complement my ‘Criss Cross’ fabric for Christopher Farr Cloth, piped in Samuel & Son’s Tradewind leather. This same fabric has been used on the armchairs on the opposite side of the room to bring a sense of balance to the space. We’ve used the ‘Royal Snail’ fabric in a grey colourway on the armchairs for continuity with a twist.
The master bedroom is a perfect retreat. The Romo ‘Leoni’ fabric on the walls is a great neutral back-drop for the fresh Matisse-like falling leaves fabric called ‘Cut-Outs’ by Hodsoll & Mckensie on the headboard and mannequin.
Moving onto the second bedroom, we thought we’d give this cosy space some pizazz by using a chartreuse colour that we’ve picked out from one of the fabrics in the drawing. The grey graphic leaf-like pattern of Schumacher’s ‘Garden of Persia’ fabric has been used on the headboard with bronze studding to add definition.
The Vanderhurd hand-embroidered ‘Lime Leaf’ fabric on the cushions in an Aqua colourway adds a delicate touch. The blue valance made from a Moon fabric picks up the colours from the end-of-bed stool, upholstered in my ‘Loom Weave’ fabric for Christopher Farr Cloth, which is echoed on the desk chair on the opposite side of the the room. Repeating fabrics in a space creates harmony.
We’ve kept the valance and desk chair simple in Andrew Martin’s herringbone ‘Summit Linen’. However, by adding a contrasting kick pleat and pipe, you bring the fabric to life. My ‘Woven Ribbon’ fabric for Christopher Farr Cloth in honey on the bed stool and chair tie all the colours together.
If you are intending to stay in London for a while, we hope you find our Apartment 15 as cool, calm and collected as we do!
