With my collaboration in The Loft at Bergdorf Goodman in New York now in full swing, I thought I’d write about some of my favourite pieces from the drawing room.
An exciting part of the process was combining some of my much loved designs with new pieces made especially for The Loft. The drawing room is a hub of any home and our little Bergdorf Goodman vignette is no exception. It is the details which make this space so special.
I wanted this part of the room to feel inviting and exciting, so I combined two of my fabrics for Christopher Farr Cloth on the sofas. Ikat Weave in lime and hot pink sits opposite Friendly Folk in our basil colourway.
More fabrics are introduced on our cushions and throws which can enliven any sofa or drawing room. These fabrics set the tone for a joyful colour palette.
Another of my favourite features are the little Doggy Lamps which I designed a few years ago now. These first appeared as accents at The Whitby Hotel and they proved to be so popular I knew I had to make these charming pieces available to buy.
I love the playful details that come through in the lampshade which has a simple yet fun chain stitch design on a lovely plain linen. The dog at the base of the lamp has a cheeky look on his face, he’s perfect for an end table or a curiosity in a hallway. He seems like he could spring to life at any moment.
The Doggy Lamps sit on another favourite from my collection, our wooden ruler side tables. The brass ruler is a point of interest and an exciting design detail.
Above the seating area hangs a wonderful kinetic sculpture by ceramicist Daniel Reynolds. I first started using Daniel’s mobiles when I commissioned three for the orangery at Ham Yard Hotel. This piece was perfect for the fun filled drawing room. The way it gently moves adds curiosity to the space.
On the fireplace sits a brand new design I collaborated on for the Bergdorf pop-up. Artist Andrea Kashaniour made two of my favourite mythical creatures from my Wedgewood dinner service and mythical land wallpaper, and reimagined them into these wonderful candlesticks. We worked hard to get the colours right and I think they are a witty addition to any fireplace or dining table.
Come and take a look at the drawing room for yourself. The Loft is open to the public until August 12 or if you can’t it make to New York, visit Shop Kit Kemp.
