We thought we would take the opportunity to show you around Room 400, a bright and sophisticated scheme that is very special.
The room is lined with contrasting fabrics. Below the dado rail, we have used a serene azure colourway from the ‘Old Flax’ collection by Soane and above is a bright hand printed ‘Sari’ linen by Raoul Textiles. The combination of these two colours gives the room a vibrant, playful twist.
We love to create our own bespoke appliqué designs to give the room individuality. In this case the headboard is an artwork in itself, embroidered and embellished with hand-blocked fabrics and old kimonos in Japanese artist Kumi’s trademark style. Smartly finished with nickel studding, Kumi’s composition will surely inspire dreams of a fantasy world.
We echoed this design on the back of our handle desk chair to balance the room and add an extra level of detail. The backcloth is a heavy and soft wool in smoke with a red contrast piping.
For the sitting area, we have upholstered the sofa in our ‘Loom Weave’ design for Christopher Farr Cloth, with Raoul ‘Sari’ print throw cushions which harmonise with the walls.
Adjacent to it, two West Timber tub chairs add a more classic and masculine touch, combining a herringbone Holland & Sherry fabric with a red Alma leather. The modern light oak coffee table creates an interesting contrast against the more ornate mahogany breakfast table.
In this room, every object and artwork has its own unique story, from the classical depiction of a Venetian townhouse to the whimsical illustrations of giraffes, lions and hippos.
Picking out the blue details and undertones, we have used a wide blue stripe for the curtains and bed cushions, which ties the scheme together. The red leather piping on the cushions punctuates the design, and ensures they aren’t lost against what is quite a dominant surrounding scheme.
With so many things to transport you away, it’s hard to believe we’re talking about a room in the heart of Soho. But this playful and bright room is the perfect home from home, we can’t wait for you to come and enjoy it!
