Porta Romana Charity Lamps

We were recently invited to design a pair of unique lamps for Porta Romana which will be auctioned on 29th November. All proceeds from the lamps will go towards building an education centre for underprivileged children in South Africa.

We jumped at this opportunity and couldn’t resist designing not one, but two very different lamps.

The first is our ‘Sailor’s Farewell Lamp’, which complements my latest dinner service collection with Wedgwood. I was inspired by a drawing by John Craxton, depicting a Sailor’s wife waving farewell with her scarf blowing in the wind. She is surrounded by motifs of the sailor’s adventures on the high seas both above and below the waterline, as his ship sails by whales, merfolk, a frogman and a curious octopus. The lampshade echoes the feeling of waves at sea.

The second lamp is our ‘Multicoloured Lamp’. It is a happy design which depicts our love of colour and pattern. The lamp base and shade are treated as a whole and linked by repeating elements on the shade.

The collection of lamps is now on show at the Porta Romana showroom at the Design Centre in Chelsea Harbour. Bidding opens on the 15th November and ends on the 29th November.
