Out & About: Two of a Kind

Out and About

Take a closer look at Peter Clark and Karen Nicol's Two of a Kind exhibition...

At our Design Studio, we’re always seeking out inspiring art and design and we’ve long admired Peter Clark’s extraordinary paper collages—particularly his delightful paper dog series. So, when we heard that Peter was exhibiting alongside textile artist Karen Nicol right next door to Ham Yard Hotel, we couldn’t resist popping into the Two of a Kind exhibition.

Peter Clark and Karen Nicol have been working in neighboring studios in Hampton Court, each with their own distinctive approach to creativity. Peter’s studio is a treasure trove of vintage papers—maps, letters and tickets—all carefully organised to fuel his imaginative collages, from his iconic paper dogs to intricate family crests. Meanwhile, Karen’s studio is brimming with yarns, fabrics and flea market finds, which she transforms into textile works full of texture and personality.

This Two of a Kind exhibition marks their very first joint show, blending Peter’s signature vintage paper collages with Karen’s delicate, textured textile creations in a way that feels fresh and exciting. The exhibition is hosted at the Air Contemporary gallery, tucked in the lively yet intimate Ham Yard Courtyard, which provides the perfect setting for their vibrant works.

Peter’s ability to turn vintage paper scraps into whimsical, joyful creations was as captivating as ever.

While Karen’s textile pieces, with their rich textures and intricate details, brought a new dimension to the show, creating a beautiful dialogue between their distinct yet complementary styles.

We’ve always been fans of Peter’s clever and playful paper dog collages. At Knightsbridge Hotel, a selection of his works welcomes guests into the Lobby and extends to the Drawing Room walls. His collages seamlessly blend with the cosy interiors, adding a touch of charm and an element of surprise to the spaces.

The Two of a Kind exhibition is only on for a few more days, closing on the 23rd of November, so don’t miss the chance to see these one-of-a-kind works in the vibrant Ham Yard Courtyard. Find out more details here.
