It’s that time of year when we feel incredibly fortunate to be located in the heart of Belgravia, amidst the vibrant celebration of Chelsea in Bloom! Coinciding with the Chelsea Flower Show, this event transforms shop fronts, hotels, and restaurants into stunning floral displays. Join us as we share some of our favourite spectacles!
Chelsea in Bloom: Floral Feasts
This year’s theme for Chelsea in Bloom is ‘Floral Feasts,’ celebrating the area’s fabulous food and botanical heritage. Hackett’s display featured a full roast dinner and sweet treats, with four different window displays that looked so lifelike, we wanted to dive right in!
The displays also included a fruity affair, showcasing cherries, lemons, watermelons, and strawberries.
Many stands mimicked traditional fruit and vegetable stalls. Outside Varley, colours were cleverly used to represent cherries, pink lady apples, and limes.
Sticks ‘n’ Sushi created a fitting display with chopsticks and sushi rolls framing their restaurant front, complete with a boat and fishing net. Rabbit restaurant opposite featured a floral hog roast in a banquette-style display. Inspired by Andy Warhol’s famous painting of the Suckling Pig, it was made from recyclable materials, fresh and dried flowers, biodegradable foam, and moss.
We also stumbled upon an amazing recreation of the famous Lady and the Tramp scene, with two dogs dining and sharing a strand of spaghetti. A 4-metre-tall candyfloss installation by Moyses Stevens on Pavilion Road transported us back to childhood with its fluffy texture, evoking sweet, joyful memories of fun fairs and carefree days.
Next, ‘Cards – A Garden of Suits’ by Moyses Stevens on Elizabeth Street creates a romantic garden outside Jo Loves, featuring lush blooms celebrating the symbols of hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades. The display combines pastel garden plants and trailing vines like ivy and jasmine, creating an atmosphere of enchantment and romance.
Belgravia in Bloom: Fun and Games
As we strolled through Chelsea’s vibrant displays, our floral adventure led us to Belgravia, where the Belgravia in Bloom festival runs from May 20 to May 27, 2024. This year’s theme, ‘Floral Fun and Games,’ captures the spirit of summer with imaginative displays inspired by various sports, transforming Belgravia into a playground of colours and creativity. One of the must-see highlights is ‘Rubik’s Cube – A Floral Twist’ by Moyses Stevens in Eccleston Yards. This display uses a vibrant mix of British blooms and complementary varieties like Craspedia, Limonium, dried poppies, and pampas to evoke childhood memories and joy.
The display outside Enoteca Turi on Pimlico Road brings a football game to life amidst the flower fields, offering a unique front-row seat to the floral match.
Our favourite display came from Chelsea Textiles, where playful ‘mossy’ dogs inside and outside the store engaged in games of hopscotch and croquet, adding a charming touch with their typical dog antics.
We hope you have enjoyed this whistle-stop tour around Chelsea & Belgravia in Bloom. Despite the rainy week, the flowers have brightened our days!
