London Design Week was back and in full swing this week. What a delight it has been to be a part of the celebrations after two years in lockdown. Minnie Kemp and I were honoured to be involved alongside other creatives. In case you missed it, we’re bringing you some highlights from the week. From design and colour to 1980’s revival, here’s what we got up to…
Minnie started off our week and presented a talk in collaboration with Julian Chichester, where she revealed her design for their new window display and shed a light on their new S/S 2022 collection. It was such an exciting way to engage, share ideas as well as hear Minnie’s innate passion for colour and pattern. Read more about the talk and our new Julian Chichester showroom scheme here.
The fun continued when we presented our new rugs in The Kit Kemp for Annie Selke Collection at Andrew Martin, our distributor in the UK alongside Shop Kit Kemp. I joined Martin Waller from Andrew Martin to give an overview of the collection, the inspiration behind each design as well as the FIVE C’s which are so important for making a space feel calm. It’s always refreshing to work with Martin who shares our enthusiasm for all things colour and texture. We were overjoyed by how many people came to see the collection, share their creative passion and enjoy a glass of Champagne with us.
We stepped back to the 1980’s on Wednesday afternoon with ‘Conversations in Design’ hosted by Country Life, where Minnie was a guest panellist alongside Rupert Cunningham, Director of Ben Pentreath and Isabella Worsley, Founder of Isabella Worsley Ltd and chaired by Giles Kime, Executive & Interiors Editor of Country Life. It was an engaging discussion taking us back to the days of pure opulence, bold grandeur, chintz on chintz, bold geometry and paying homage to the likes of David Hicks and Nicholas Haslam. It was interesting to hear each guest’s different perspective on how the 80’s has influenced their own architecture and design, as well as what continues to inspire them, and what needs to be left behind! As Minnie said: “Be inspired, but move things along”.
It has been incredible to be involved with this year’s Design Week. With more exciting events on the horizon, keep in touch and sign-up to Kit’s Design Thread newsletter here. We’d love to see you ‘Out and About’ soon!
