Out and About: Orchid Show at The New York Botanical Garden

One of my favourite annual events has to be the Orchid Show at The New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx – an area that has changed beyond recognition in recent years and become a hotspot for art and culture. The Orchid Show is always a showstopper and it reminds us of the wonder and awe of Mother Nature. Full of vibrant tones and bold splashes of colour, it’s just what we needed to pull us out of winter!

Designed by Jeff Leatham, the show which is appropriately named ‘Kaleidoscope’ is a dazzling display of almost every species and colour of orchid in existence. Leatham says, ‘Every time you look into a  kaleidoscope, you see a different image, scenario, and beautiful story. The moment you walk in here,  you see a story throughout’.

As you make your way through the conservatory, the forms and colours morph and are reflected on faceted mirrored sculptures, giving another view to the shapes and textures.

It’s always inspiring to be reminded of the colour and beauty that nature can bring as well as the importance of bringing these elements into your living space. Our hotel entrances and lobbies are always filled with fresh blooms and greenery. Whether a subtle or grand display, the effect is hard to dispute. Take a look at Flowers: Our Styling Handbook for some useful tips and ideas.
