Christmas Craft – Paper Chains

How To

Discover how to create your very own Christmas paper chains...

At Christmas, we believe that craft is key. Whether you’re making your own decorations or handcrafting gifts, these activities can really help you embrace the holiday magic. It’s a fun, relaxing activity to enjoy while curled up in front of a festive film, with a roaring fire crackling in the background—especially on those chilly, dark evenings when stepping outside doesn’t sound appealing.

This year, we’ve chosen to brighten up our space with vibrant, colourful paper chains that are sure to add a festive pop to any room. Join us on today’s blog as we show you how to create your very own Christmas paper chains.

What you’ll need:

  • Coloured paper or wallpaper strips
  • 1 pair of scissors
  • 1 stapler

Step 1:

Start by cutting your coloured paper into strips—each one should be 4cm wide by 25cm long. For an eco-friendly twist, we’ve used scraps of unused wallpaper from our GP & J Baker and Andrew Martin collections.

Step 2:

Once your strips are cut, simply staple the first strip into a loop. Then, continue the chain by alternating strips, threading each one through the last in the same pattern.

Keep going until your chain reaches the length you want—perfect for draping around Christmas trees, fireplaces or across walls. The longer, the better! The more paper chains you make, the more festive your space will feel.

Traditionally, paper chains were introduced in Britain during the Victorian era, used to decorate Christmas trees. However, we love to hang them everywhere — from doorways to mantels to the kitchen!

We hope this simple craft inspires you to dive into the holiday spirit and get creative with your own Christmas decorations. Happy crafting and merry making!
