While we’re renowned for our bold use of bright colours and eclectic combinations, we also embrace the elegance and drama that black can bring to a space. When used thoughtfully, black creates a sense of strength, highlights key features, or adds a tailored, masculine touch. Join us on today’s blog as we explore the striking impact of black in our designs.
In Room 906 at Crosby Street Hotel, the headboard showcases a stunning appliqué design on durable black wool. Its boldness is enhanced by the contrast with our vibrant orange Wychwood wallpaper, creating a powerful visual statement.
Continuing the sophisticated theme, the seating area features our Pear Tree wallpaper. The delicate large-scale pattern complements the dining chairs upholstered in Inside Out fabric, offering a refined balance to the space.
In Room 208 at Haymarket Hotel, we’ve opted for neutral wall tones—a departure from our usual vibrant palette. This soft backdrop allows the headboard to become the room’s focal point. Add an accent colour, as we have, or introduce pops of colour through accessories and artwork to create layers of interest.
In contrast, Room 401 at Charlotte Street Hotel features a calming palette of natural and earthy tones. Here, black emerges through subtle details. The headboard, framed in oatmeal wool, features a found fabric with wide-set nickel studding that enhances its depth. A striped black-and-white fabric brings a punch of strength and an unexpected twist. The same black-and-white stripes are used for the armchair piping, applied on the bias for a contemporary look.
In Room 509 at The Whitby Hotel, black takes centre stage in the headboard fabric, where fine lines mimic ink drawings. The striking black-and-white headboard against the red walls creates a sharp contrast, while the onion-shaped design introduces rhythm and fluidity to the room.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this journey through our use of black, showing how it can infuse our spaces with both elegance and a sense of fun!
