Marble has long been known as a symbol of luxury and elegance. Its use in architecture and design has maintained popularity throughout history, notably in ancient Roman and Greek buildings as well as Hindu temples. Marble’s unique veining and sense of grandeur ensure its timeless appeal. This is why we love incorporating it into our designs. Join us as we reveal how and where we use this beautiful material.
Bathrooms
Marble is a natural choice for bathrooms, where its clean and polished surface creates a spa-like feel and adds a sense of grandeur, enhancing our guests’ stay. We love to use Arabescato marble for its dramatic veining, which adds a beautiful pattern while maintaining a crisp, clean look, especially against white walls.
Its monochromatic tones pair well with a variety of colours, making it versatile for use with wallpaper, tiling, or other colour accents.
Flooring
Marble is practical for bathroom flooring due to its water resistance and durability, essential for a surface that is cleaned daily. The stone’s shiny surface bounces light, making rooms appear larger, especially beneficial in spaces without natural light. Additionally, its cool touch is a pleasant sensation when stepping out of a hot bath or shower. For our moonlit bathroom at C.P. Hart’s Waterloo showroom, we created under-lit star and moon-insets on the marble floor, to add a soft glow to the space.
Kitchen
Marble countertops and backsplashes create a striking appearance in kitchens, transforming functional spaces into visually captivating rooms. We prefer natural materials, and marble offers practical benefits: its antibacterial properties resist bacteria and mold, and its natural coolness is ideal for baking, helping to keep dough cool while handling and kneading.
Fireplaces
Using marble on fireplaces enhances their role as a room’s focal point. The unique veining in marble transforms it into a work of art, adding character and visual interest. Marble is easily shaped and carved, allowing us to add fine traditional details to mantels and surrounds.
Sculptures
We also use marble for its aesthetic appeal. For instance, the lobby at Warren Street Hotel in New York features a striking marble sculpture by Tony Cragg. Its fluid form and unique markings make it a standout piece, setting the tone for elegance upon arrival.
Furniture
Incorporating marble into furniture adds a decorative touch to spaces. With its array of colours and patterns, marble complements the overall room design without overwhelming it. Marble blends natural beauty with timeless luxury, providing both practicality and sophistication in our spaces.
We hope today’s blog has given you some inspiration on how to use this gorgeous material to create subtle touches of classic elegance.
