Dishy Decor

We love to see our designs being used in your homes. Our friend and fellow Interior Designer, Emma Sims- Hilditch shared a wonderful photo this week of her summer house in Cornwall, where she has swapped the artwork for an array of plates, all with different styles and meanings to her.

Our ‘Sailor’s Farewell’ plates are in pride of place, and we love the fact they have found their way back to the ocean, it couldn’t be a more perfect setting! Emma has paired the plates with a selection of elegant hues of pinks, blues and creams.

Plates are such a fantastic use of wall space and we love including them in our designs. Some dishes are just too beautiful to cover up with food and must be hung to be enjoyed at all times!

In this suite at Charlotte Street Hotel, a powerful William Yeoward fabric lines the hallway, punctuated by the sharp white of the joinery. Above a wooden chest of drawers hang three large plates, adorned with fruit and birds, adding a calming touch of green and yellow to the space.

A vast collection of sumptuous dinner platters collected from flea markets and online sites such as eBay were framed in Perspex boxes for The Whitby Bar and The Orangery. To make these stand out, we used a plain black felt behind each to create a smart uniformed look.

A fresh blue and white scheme in the Whitby Suite sees a calming cluster of oriental painted plates against an ocean blue silk wallpaper.

We had a go ourselves at home – why not try it too! Send us your photos and tag @kitkempdesignthread.
