Design Threads: Painting Pots

This week’s post on creativity at home was inspired by my cat Tattie, whose favourite place to keep cool and feel safe on a summer evening is in a terracotta pot…

We were also inspired by the display of uniform sized terracotta pots from this year’s virtual Chelsea Flower Show. They played with different variations of the same plant and displayed them on tongue and groove shelving with a contrast paint colour.

I rummaged through the greenhouse and shed at the bottom of the garden to find some pots of my own.

In the dishwasher they went and after drying in the sun, I started to paint details on the smaller ones, which will hold tea lights on the table.

I painted a larger pot with a tree of life and two spotted Tattie cats facing each other. Then I layered acrylic paint and charcoal pencil and applied a sealer and matt varnish.

I picked the strong silhouette of an aloe vera plant, with textural Spanish moss for the finished piece.

We would love to see your own painted pots. Have a go and post your own with #DesignThreads, tagging us with @kitkempdesignthread and we will share our favourites.
