Our Top Tips for Getting Cosy

Day to Day

Discover our top tips for creating a warm and inviting home...

As the days grow shorter and temperatures begin to drop, there is nothing quite like settling in at home. Autumn and winter are the perfect time to introduce softer textures, warmer lighting and a few thoughtful touches to make your interiors feel more inviting. Here are our top tips for creating a cosy home during the cooler months.

Sink into Something Soft

A comfortable sofa is essential for evenings spent at home. Look for generously proportioned designs with deep seats, plump cushions and tactile upholstery. Textured weaves and wool fabrics add warmth, while colourful cushions bring an extra layer of interest and comfort.

Set the Mood

Nothing creates atmosphere quite like a roaring fire or the gentle flicker of candlelight. Arrange candles at different heights to create a warm, welcoming glow, and introduce scented candles to bring another sensory layer to the room.

Soften the Lighting

Lighting can transform a room, particularly on darker winter evenings. Swap bright overhead lights for table lamps, floor lamps and wall lights to create softer pools of illumination. Dimmer switches allow you to adjust the mood throughout the evening, while warm-toned bulbs help achieve a gentle, golden glow.

Create a Book Nook

Find an overlooked corner and turn it into a little reading retreat. A comfortable armchair, a good reading lamp and a small side table for a cup of tea are all you need. Add a favourite cushion, a soft throw and a stack of books, and you have the perfect spot to settle down with a good read. Window seats and unused corners can be equally lovely places to pause and unwind.

Layer Up

Just as we layer up in winter, our interiors can benefit from a few extra layers too. Mix cushions in different fabrics and patterns, drape throws over sofas and beds, and introduce quilts for an extra layer of warmth.

Layering rugs over wooden floors or fitted carpets is another way to add softness underfoot, while bringing colour, pattern and texture into a room.

The Perfect Night In

Sometimes the best way to enjoy being at home is to keep things simple. Draw the curtains, make a cup of tea, choose a favourite film and settle beneath a favourite blanket.

After all, a home should be as comfortable as it is beautiful.
