Fabric Focus: Hideaway

Day to Day

Discover the different ways we use our Hideaway fabric...

There is something wonderfully transporting about a beautiful piece of fabric. A pattern can remind us of somewhere we have travelled, something discovered in a market or museum, or simply spark an imaginary journey to somewhere far away. Hideaway, our fabric designed with Christopher Farr Cloth, has exactly this sense of adventure. The inspiration for Hideaway came from our Travelling Light fabric from a previous collection with Christopher Farr Cloth. We wanted to develop a tighter, smaller scale pattern that could work alongside the original design, while still capturing the same sense of movement and adventure.

The design is made up of rows of geometric shapes that sit alongside and overlap one another, creating a strong sense of rhythm and movement. Although bold in scale, there is a lovely softness and imperfection to the pattern that stops it from ever feeling too precise or formal. For us, Hideaway conjures up thoughts of faraway places and colourful textiles gently moving in the breeze, like something collected on a journey and brought home to become part of a room’s story.

Of course, colour plays an important role in all our designs and Hideaway is no exception. The different colourways give the pattern an entirely new personality. In this suite at The Soho Hotel, we dressed the walls in the hot pink colourway, setting the mood for the room and giving the fabric an unexpected use while creating a warm, enveloping atmosphere.

We love mixing colour and pattern in unexpected ways and Hideaway is particularly easy to layer. Its larger scale and crisp white background work beautifully alongside the bold blue fabric on the walls of this suite at Ham Yard Hotel. We never want a room to feel too coordinated. Instead, we like fabrics to feel as though they have been collected over time, with each one bringing something different to the room.

In this room of greens, we have used Hideaway for the curtains, where the generous scale of the pattern keeps the room bright and uplifting. Touches of blue and green bring depth and movement, while the fabric sits comfortably alongside bolder weaves.

We have always believed that a room should contain elements that make you stop, look again and perhaps wonder where they came from. Hideaway does just that. Full of colour, movement and a sense of adventure, it brings a little piece of somewhere far away into the home.
