Design Stories at the Isle of Wight Literary Festival

Day to Day

Join Kit Kemp at the Isle of Wight Literary Festival for an inspiring talk exploring the ideas behind her latest book, Design Stories...

This October, we’re delighted to be heading across the Solent to the Isle of Wight Literary Festival, where Kit will take to the stage on Friday 9th October, from 2pm – 3pm, to talk about her latest book, Design Stories.

Set within the beautiful surroundings of Northwood House in Cowes, the festival brings together writers, thinkers and creatives for four days of conversation, ideas and storytelling. It feels like a particularly fitting setting for a book that is, at its heart, about the stories that make a space memorable. Design Stories, Kit’s fifth book and her first with Rizzoli, opens the doors to some of our most-loved projects, from colourful Firmdale hotels in London and New York to private homes and creative collaborations. Each chapter explores the ideas, people and craftsmanship behind a space, revealing how layers of colour, pattern, art, antiques and handmade details come together to create something entirely individual.

For us, a room should never feel too perfect or prescribed. It should evolve, surprise and, most importantly, reveal something about the people who live in it. Often, it’s an unexpected piece of art, a beautifully made textile or a treasured object collected on a journey that becomes the starting point for an entire scheme.

At the festival, Kit will delve into this creative process, sharing the inspirations, ideas and collaborations behind Design Stories, while exploring why individuality, craftsmanship and a little courage with colour remain at the heart of everything we do.

We hope to see you on the Isle of Wight for what promises to be a wonderfully inspiring celebration of books, creativity and, of course, a good story. Discover more information and get tickets to this exciting event here.
