The Places Dogs Choose

Day to Day

Discover why the spaces our dogs love often become the ones we cherish most...

Dogs have an instinct for finding the most comforting places in a home. They settle into the patch of afternoon sunlight that stretches across the floor, the armchair with the perfect view of the garden, or the doorway where everyone seems to gather at the end of the day. They understand something we often forget: a home is not simply made of beautiful objects, but of the moments lived within its walls.

Perhaps that is why the places they choose so often become our favourites too. The old chair softened by years of quiet afternoons, the corner where the morning light first appears, the rug that has gradually become a favourite resting place. These spaces are rarely planned or styled with intention, yet they become some of the most cherished parts of a home.

A dog never worries whether a room follows the latest trend or if every cushion is perfectly placed. They simply choose where they feel safe, warm and content. In doing so, they remind us to notice the quiet comforts we often overlook, the warmth of the sun on the floor, the view from a familiar window, the simple joy of being close to those we love.

The most beautiful homes are rarely the most perfect. They are the ones that reveal the lives unfolding within them: a blanket draped over an armchair, a basket waiting by the door, a well-worn path through the garden, and the unmistakable signs of everyday life shared with those we love.

And more often than not, the very best place in the house is the one a dog discovered long before we did.
