Make a Splash: Art, Light and Movement

Day to Day

Discover how thoughtful design transforms Haymarket Hotel's swimming pool into a beautifully immersive space of art, light and movement...

Hidden beneath the lively streets of London’s Theatre District, Haymarket Hotel’s swimming pool is a world of its own. More than a place to swim, it is an immersive space where art, light and design come together to create an atmosphere that is constantly evolving.

Above, a ceiling scattered with hundreds of fibre optic lights forms a starlit sky, bringing a quiet sense of wonder to the room. Their gentle sparkle is reflected in the water below, creating an ever-changing display of light that shifts with every ripple.

The pool is also home to a mesmerising lighting installation by Martin Richman, whose bold washes of colour transform the space throughout the day and into the evening. Bands of vibrant light move across the walls and water, dissolving into fluid reflections that make the entire room feel alive. No two visits are ever quite the same.

Adding another layer of movement is the striking ClockClock 24 – ‘Dada Blue’ artwork by Kit Kemp Design Studio x Humans since 1982. Composed of individually synchronised analogue clocks, the installation is in constant motion, each clock contributing to a larger choreography. Much like synchronised swimmers gliding effortlessly through the water, the hands move independently before coming together in perfect harmony, celebrating rhythm, precision and the beauty of collective movement.

Framed by stone and warm grey oak, the 55-foot pool is as versatile as it is beautiful. A bespoke oak floor can be installed across the water to transform the space for dinners, celebrations and events, or partially extended to create a stage-like platform while leaving the shimmering pool on display. It is a wonderful example of thoughtful design and ingenuity, allowing the room to evolve while never losing its sense of theatre.

For those looking to experience the space for themselves, Haymarket Hotel also offers a Swim and Dine experience. Spend a leisurely morning or afternoon enjoying a relaxing swim in the hotel’s striking 18-metre pool, before heading upstairs to Brumus for a seasonal two-course lunch. Discover more here.

At Haymarket Hotel, wellness is never simply functional. Every detail has been carefully considered to create a destination where art is experienced rather than observed and where colour, craftsmanship and imagination leave a lasting impression long after you return to the city above.
