This May, we are delighted to celebrate Kit Kemp’s latest book, Design Stories, with a special moment at Rizzoli Bookstore. From the 4th to 11th May, we will be designing a window display at Rizzoli’s Flatiron store, offering a glimpse into the world behind the work. Design Stories is a striking and inspiring volume, a visual journey through Kit’s imaginative approach, where bold colour, layered pattern and craftsmanship come together to create interiors rich with personality, movement and intrigue.
The window will take the form of a vignette inspired by the atmosphere of our creative studio. Rather than presenting a finished room, it captures something more in progress, an insight into how ideas form, evolve and come to life.
At its centre, the space is arranged as a working studio, anchored by a desk layered with fabrics, materials and design elements in motion. Signature furniture pieces sit alongside it, including details of appliqué that highlight the craftsmanship and character so integral to our work. Much like our studio, the installation is composed of textiles, books and objects that each hold meaning, with fabrics draped and folded to celebrate texture, and stacks of books suggesting the flow of ideas and references that shape our projects. An easel draws the eye, inviting passers-by to pause, look closer and step into the scene.
We want the space to feel alive, as though we had simply stepped away for a moment mid-creation. It reflects the rhythm of the studio, a balance of structure and spontaneity, where materials are explored, compositions evolve and inspiration is drawn from both past and present. At its heart, the window is about sharing process as much as outcome. It is a reminder that design is not only about the finished room, but about the layers of thought, craft and imagination that bring it to life.
We hope that those passing by Rizzoli during this time feel inspired to look a little closer at texture, at colour and at the beauty of everyday creative moments. On Thursday 14th May, Kit will be at Rizzoli in conversation with Jacqueline Terrebonne of Galerie magazine, continuing the dialogue around Design Stories and the ideas behind it.
