Our fine china is lovingly crafted in the historic heartland of British pottery, Stoke-on-Trent, by two legendary makers, Spode and Wedgwood. Creating fine china is a complex, almost alchemical process. Each piece passes through around 30 skilled hands before it graces a table. This is why we take such pride and joy in the dinnerware used across our hotels. It is a remarkable skill and a true labour of love.
We believe that in design every detail matters. Careful and considered attention transforms not only the objects we use, but the dining experience itself.
Our Tall Trees collection, made with Spode, is inspired by walks in the countryside, with swaying treetops and rolling hills fading into the distance. Each piece is hand painted with 24-carat gold banding, giving it a regal finishing touch. There is something truly inspiring about seeing such extraordinary craftsmanship still alive in Britain, especially in a world where so much is rushed, outsourced and made without soul.
Our Sailor’s Farewell dining collection, made with Wedgwood, tells the story of a sailor’s loved one waving goodbye as they set off on an adventure across the high seas. China that tells a story draws us into the imagination even as we dine, helping to spark conversation around the table.
Our Mythical Creatures collection, also made with Wedgwood, celebrates enchanting animals and characters in a lyrical and imaginative style. The original inspiration came from an eighteenth century Chinese embroidered textile that Kit discovered in an antique shop in Covent Garden. We adapted the imagery and introduced new elements, creating our own unique family of creatures.
To witness the age old technique of creating fine bone china, made with such pride and precision by Wedgwood and Spode, is a rare privilege and one that deserves to be supported and celebrated in order to keep these traditional crafts alive. Every piece from our Tall Trees, Sailor’s Farewell and Mythical Creatures collections reflects the skill, care and heritage of British ceramic craftsmanship, something we are proud to champion. Long may it continue.
