Join us for Cocktails and Conversations at The Soho Hotel on Monday 23rd March for an inspiring evening celebrating the intersection of art, design and technology. Willow Kemp, Firmdale’s Design Director and Art Ambassador, will sit in conversation with Per Emanuelsson and Bastian Bischoff, the creative duo behind the Stockholm-based studio Humans since 1982.
Established in 2009, Per and Bastian, both born in 1982, met as postgraduate students at HDK Göteborg. What began as a shared curiosity has evolved into a dynamic and ambitious practice that brings together creative expression, thoughtful design and innovative technology. The duo is best known for their celebrated A Million Times series, kinetic sculptures that transform clocks into choreographed performances. Individually programmed, each clock rotates in formation to create hypnotic patterns of movement. Once every minute, the hands align to form a precise digital display, playfully marking the passage of time.
We were thrilled to collaborate with them on ClockClock 24 ‘Dada Blue’, a striking kinetic sculpture. Its deep blue and crisp white palette creates a refined balance between coolness and warmth, stillness and motion. Named in tribute to the Dada movement, renowned for its spirit of experimentation, the piece captures a sense of playful curiosity and creative freedom. Guests will have the opportunity to experience this captivating work first hand during the evening.
In this intimate conversation, Willow, Per, and Bastian will explore the evolution of their practice, reflect on their collaboration, and discuss the role of art in shaping hospitality spaces. They will also share insights into the creative processes behind their large-scale works, offering behind-the-scenes stories, personal reflections, and a lively question and answer session.
A cocktail or non-alcoholic drink will be served on arrival, with the talk taking place from 6.15pm to 7.30pm. The speakers will remain afterwards for informal conversation, making this a rare opportunity to engage with one of today’s most captivating creative studios.
