New Year, New Home

Day to Day

Discover how small, thoughtful changes can refresh your home for the year ahead...

Every new year arrives with familiar resolutions: to read more, move more and connect with friends more often. This year, we suggest extending that same intention to your home by finding small, meaningful ways to reimagine and revitalise the spaces you already inhabit. Our environments shape the way we live each day. They influence our routines, our moods and the way we approach what the year holds ahead. As we continue to evolve, our homes should be allowed to evolve with us. Here are a few thoughtful, joyful ways to refresh your space in 2026.

Upcycle with intention

Start by looking at what you already own. A chair, side table, lamp, picture frame or cabinet can be transformed with a fresh coat of paint or a change in hardware. Upcycling invites creativity and sustainability, often resulting in pieces with more character and personality. You do not need to be advanced—simply allow space to explore your creativity. Often, you will surprise yourself with the results.

Host to reset your home

Nothing motivates a New Year’s edit quite like opening your doors. Host a dinner party and let the anticipation guide a gentle refresh: clear surfaces, light candles, and bring new energy into familiar rooms.

Reconsider bedding

Bedding is one of the simplest ways to change how a room feels. Play with joyful cushions, layer patterns, introduce colour, and invest in comfort. A well-dressed bed sets the tone for the entire day.

Introduce a statement piece

Whether it is a boldly upholstered chair, a sculptural lamp, or an oversized artwork, one strong piece can anchor a room and give it confidence. Find the piece that truly brings you joy and let it stand proud.

Begin a collection

Curated collections are a beautiful way to bring artistry to something personal. Choose items that are sentimental or intriguing, then research, collect, and display them with intention. The process often becomes as meaningful as the final arrangement. In The Croc Bowling Alley at Ham Yard Hotel, for instance, we collected vintage bowling shoes from eBay and displayed them in Perspex boxes.

Dress your walls

There is nothing homier than walls filled with personalised art and unique frames. Everyone has at least one piece waiting patiently in a closet. This year, we refuse to let it stay there. Block out time on a quiet Sunday, invite a friend and make the act of hanging art a fun and creative project.

A new year does not require a new house. All you need are fresh eyes, thoughtful approaches and a willingness to play.
