Symbols of Autumn

Day to Day

Discover how we weave the symbols of autumn into our designs, bringing warmth, colour and seasonal charm into every space...

Autumn is a season rich with colour, tradition and warmth. As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, we naturally seek to bring its beauty and character into our homes. Here are some of our favourite autumnal symbols, thoughtfully woven into our designs to inspire you to refresh your space this season.

Baskets

Autumn is the season of harvest, abundant with fruits and vegetables. Baskets, once essential for gathering produce, have long symbolised plenty. At The Whitby Bar, we have given them new life as decorative accents, turning these practical objects into charming details that celebrate the beauty of the everyday.

Candles and Fire

Few things capture the essence of autumn like the warmth of a fire. A crackling fireplace instantly transforms a room into a cosy retreat, while the gentle flicker of candles adds ambience and comfort. As evenings draw in, lighting them not only warms the space but also evokes that cherished sense of calm unique to autumn.

Falling Leaves

Nature marks the season’s change with falling leaves, a graceful reminder of transition and renewal. We echoed this beauty in our Harvest Moon collection for Andrew Martin, where the Falling Leaves fabric reimagines autumn’s descent with embroidered oak leaves in berry reds, burnished ochres and mossy greens.

Subtle appliqué leaf motifs on pieces such as Kit’s Wing Chair and the Sam headboard bring a timeless, seasonal elegance to interiors.

Mushrooms

Autumn is the peak of mushroom foraging, when these woodland treasures add mystery and whimsy to the season. Real or decorative, they introduce a playful, natural element to interiors. Our new collection for Chelsea Textiles embraces this spirit, with designs that capture the mischief and magic of the forest floor.

Colour Palette

Above all, autumn is defined by colour. From golden fields to fiery treetops, the season offers endless inspiration. Rich reds, ochres, earthy browns and mossy greens create a palette that brings the outdoors in, a celebration of nature’s artistry at its most vibrant.

Autumn invites us to slow down, savour the season and embrace the warmth of home. With just a few thoughtful touches, you can capture its spirit indoors, creating spaces that feel both welcoming and full of character.
