This October, Manhattan celebrates the very best of British creativity as Dovetail makes its debut in New York. This dynamic new initiative, created in partnership with the British design industry and His Majesty’s Consulate General in New York, shines a spotlight on British makers and their extraordinary craft. From the 14th to 30th October, design lovers are invited to follow Dovetrail, a curated journey through showrooms and creative spaces across the city, each showcasing remarkable examples of craft and design. We are delighted to be part of this trail, celebrating British craftsmanship at Warren Street Hotel.
In the Lobby at Warren Street Hotel, we are exhibiting two exquisite sculptural wooden vessels by Ash & Plumb. Their work is deeply rooted in the natural world, defined by its versatility, organic forms and emotional resonance. Each piece is handmade from unseasoned oak, allowing the material itself to shape and influence the final form.
These vessels sit beautifully alongside the hotel’s vibrant artworks by Tony Cragg, Sanaa Gateja and Henry Neville-Wood, adding a grounded and organic dimension to the space.
The first of the two pieces, Spire Vessel, is created from lightning-struck English oak sourced in Sussex and stitched with waxed cotton thread. It is a large, wood-turned vessel treated with fire and lime, then oiled and buffed to achieve a rich, leathery patina with deep earthen hues. With its hand-carved handles and bold, spire-like silhouette, the form feels both timeless and powerful.
The second piece, Annulus II Vessel, is inspired by an exquisite Roman bowl. Named after the Latin word for a ring-shaped object, the vessel features a distinctive band that encircles its waist. Blackened by fire and finished with Danish oil, wax and delicate stitchwork, it celebrates the fusion of ancient influence and contemporary craftsmanship.
We believe that true craft brings soul to a space. While a machine can reproduce an object, something made by hand carries the mark of its maker. Our aim is to shine a light on these extraordinary artisans and share their work with new audiences. Dovetail embodies this spirit. Curated by Helen Chislett, the initiative honours skilled makers who keep heritage techniques alive. As The Earl of Snowdon so aptly said, these crafts are “as relevant and important to our future as ever before.”
We are proud to take part in this celebration of British craftsmanship, showcasing Ash & Plumb’s vessels in the Lobby at Warren Street Hotel. Their sculptural wooden works capture the essence of making, where tradition meets innovation, bringing a touch of Britain’s creative heart to New York. Brochures will be available at the front desk for those following the Dovetrail or you can follow the interactive map here.
