Artist Spotlight: Alice Mary Lynch

Day to Day

Step into the enchanting world of Alice Mary Lynch, where art, storytelling, and imagination come together...

There is a certain kind of magic in Alice Mary Lynch’s world, a place where painted dancers, folkloric costumes, and the soft shimmer of storytelling intertwine. Her work spans illustration, textiles and sculpture, feeling at once nostalgic and new, with woven stories stitched together by a generous dose of wonder. Follow along as we learn more about Alice’s world in this Artist Spotlight.

Having begun her career in Paris as a fashion designer for John Galliano and Sonia Rykiel, Alice eventually returned to the English countryside, where her imagination could truly take root.

In her Somerset studio, she conjures tiny universes from paint, paper, and cloth, crafting whimsical beings that feel alive with personality. Her pieces are more than decorative objects; they are characters with stories to tell. From fairy-tale dolls to hand-painted ornaments, every detail speaks of patience, craftsmanship, and joy. There is something unmistakably human in her work. A quiet reminder that beauty often lives in the imperfect, the hand-touched and the lovingly made.

Alice’s creations are grounded in narrative and emotion. “I like to imagine each piece as a guardian,” she says, “handmade to make your heart flutter, to lovingly watch over you, keep you safe, hold your hand, and pass on through future generations.” Alice designs seasonal collections and unique pieces, selling through stores such as Harrods and Fortnum & Mason. Each creation is rooted in imagination and a playful childhood nostalgia. Her philosophy feels similarly aligned with our own, where every space tells a story and every object carries a sense of individuality. Both Alice and our design team share a love of colour, texture, and the joyful collision of old and new; a celebration of craft that feels personal and full of life.

This November, guests are invited to step into Alice’s enchanting world at a special Decoration Painting Workshop at Haymarket Hotel. Spend a joyful day painting your own pair of ‘tree dancer’ wooden decorations under Alice’s guidance, an experience as creative as it is calming. Taking place on Sunday 30th November from 11am to 4pm, the day includes all materials, a delicious seasonal lunch in Brumus Restaurant, and tea, coffee, and cake throughout the workshop, plus two handmade decorations to take home.

Bring your curiosity for festive magic surrounded by art, colour, and imagination, and we will see you there.
