Sofas have always been at the heart of the home, designed as much for hosting as for lounging. Over the centuries, the sofa has evolved from a conversational seat to the place where we curl up and connect. In our designs, we have redefined the role of the sofa, blending artistry with comfort so that each piece feels both welcoming and unique. Join us as we showcase three of our favourite statement sofa styles.
Lottie Sofa
Our brand-new Lottie Sofa is an elegant L-shaped design that maximises seating without overwhelming the room, offering the comfort of a sofa and armchairs combined but with a lighter footprint. The generous shape invites you to stretch out or sink back while watching a film, and the corner configuration naturally gathers people together, creating a sense of flow and ease. It is perfect for entertaining in a relaxed style.
We love to pair it with a square ottoman, which not only balances the clean lines of the L-shape but also adds a place to rest your feet, set down a tray of drinks, or even use as extra seating. Together, the sofa and ottoman create a harmonious setting that feels both practical and inviting.
Melissa Sofa
Instantly recognisable with its deep buttons, rolled arms and enveloping silhouette, our Melissa Chesterfield sofa has a timeless appeal. The chesterfield sofa was originally commissioned in the 18th century by the Earl of Chesterfield and was designed so a gentleman could sit comfortably without creasing his suit.
We love this design because it naturally commands attention and sets the tone for the entire room. Its proportions are elegant and traditional, yet when dressed in a bold, vibrant fabric, it seamlessly blends classic design with a fresh, contemporary edge.
We often choose to upholster the legs in the same fabric, adding an extra layer of comfort and giving the piece a more contemporary twist.
Willow Sofa
The Willow Sofa strikes a balance between structure and comfort. A double row of studding, contrasting piping and mattress-style seat cushions give it a tailored edge, while the folded-back arms add a softer, more relaxed finish. We love to add scatter cushions in front of the padded back cushions to maximise comfort and to introduce another layer of pattern or one of our favourite fabric designs.
Never underestimate the impact of a sofa cushion. They are more than just soft accents for seating; they add contrast, pattern, texture and softness, while also helping to tie a scheme together and bring balance to a room.
Our playful sofa shapes can all be made to order from Shop Kit Kemp, whether you would like to recreate a much-loved favourite from one of our designs or commission something entirely bespoke. It is no secret that we love a sofa that is as squishy and comfortable as it is stylish.
We hope this blog has sparked ideas about the role of sofa design in your own home.
