Day to Day

Discover the best of London and New York this August...

Whether you find yourself in London or New York, August offers a wealth of cultural experiences, summer energy and stylish escapes. From open-air opera to rooftop cocktails and vintage parties, here are our favourite ways to enjoy both cities this month.

In New York

Celebrate the season with NYC Restaurant Week (until 17th August), where nearly 600 restaurants serve curated menus across the city. Be sure to visit the Orangery at Warren Street Hotel for a vibrant, seasonal lunch or dinner.

Head to Central Park for Shakespeare in the Park (7th August – 14th September) with Twelfth Night bringing laughter and romance under the stars. Or dress the part at the Jazz Age Lawn Party (9th–10th August) on Governors Island, complete with live orchestras and vintage flair.

Art lovers should not miss Amy Sherald: American Sublime at the Whitney, on view until 10th August, while sports fans can look forward to the US Open (24th August – 7th September), a true highlight of the summer calendar.

For something more offbeat, enjoy the city on foot during Summer Streets (9th, 16th and 23rd August) as car-free avenues open up to yoga, roller skating, music and art installations.

In London

Escape the city with a day trip to the Glyndebourne Festival Opera (running until 25th August), set in the rolling Sussex countryside. Pair world-class performances with a black-tie picnic on the estate’s manicured lawns.

Back in town, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (until 18th August) offers a bold and varied look at contemporary art, while the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall (until 14th September) presents a season of exceptional classical music. Treat yourself to a private box for the full experience.

For glamour and automotive excellence, Salon Privé returns to Blenheim Palace from 27th to 31st August. Expect an elegant display of vintage and hypercars, fine dining, fashion showcases and a touch of high-summer opulence.

Also not to be missed is Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, where alfresco performances take place in one of London’s most beautiful green spaces. This summer’s line-up includes a fresh take on classic stories, perfect for a warm evening under the stars.

Whether you’re strolling through an open-air art show or sipping cocktails during a jazz set, August in London and New York is bursting with inspiration and unforgettable moments.
