At our Design Studio, we’re always drawn to details that tell a story and few motifs feel more personal or quietly powerful than the human face. They connect us, make us look twice and add instant character to a room. Faces in design go beyond figurative artwork or gallery walls. They can be playful or abstract, subtle or bold. Appearing on textiles, ceramics and even embroidery, there is a sense of soul to them and a hint of mischief that invites you to look a little longer. On today’s blog, we are exploring the power of faces in design.
We love to incorporate details in ways that feel unexpected but never out of place. The shell faces on our Oyster cart are a nod to the mythical creatures that might live in our oceans and add a lighthearted twist to the classic oyster cart.
By incorporating faces into the design of a room, we offer moments of delight and surprise to our guests when they spot a familiar kind face staring back at them.
Our Moondog fabric, designed for Chelsea Textiles, features a subtle man in the moon face, a gentle presence tucked into the design. We like to imagine him as a quiet guardian, watching over with a calm and reassuring spirit.
We love to use characterful touches in our spaces and Margit Wittig’s artisan lights do just that. The stylised sculpted profiles quietly watch over a room without being too overwhelming or dominating.
Faces bring familiarity and feeling. They remind us that design is not just about function or style but also about connection.
When a space feels like it is looking back at you with a quiet smile, that is when a room truly comes alive!
