Fabric Focus: Robina’s Dinner Party

Day to Day

Take a closer look at our Robina's Dinner Party fabric and see how its playful motifs and subtle pattern can add personality and a gentle sense of storytelling to your space...

This week on the blog, we are delighted to shine a spotlight on Robina’s Dinner Party, one of the signature fabrics from our collection designed for GP & J Baker. This playful and expressive design is an ode to the ceramicist Robina Jack, whose work we have admired and collected for many years. Her distinctive pieces can be found framed throughout our hotels, bringing a sense of wit and craft to every space.

Robina Jack is best known for her intricately patterned ceramics and paintings on found wood. Her art celebrates nature, animals and nautical themes through a distinctive, whimsical lens. Reimagining her work as a fabric and wallpaper felt like a natural extension of her world, a joyful tribute to her Oxfordshire childhood, visible through her naïve brushstrokes and charming use of colour.

At Haymarket Hotel, we have used it in a suite alongside soft reds and pinks. The sofa, upholstered in the green colourway, makes a bold yet inviting statement, offering an unexpected twist without disrupting the serenity and warmth of the space.

Headboards often serve as a focal point and we embraced the opportunity to feature Robina’s Dinner Party in this way too. In one room, blues and whites take centre stage, transforming the fabric into a more masculine version of this otherwise whimsical design. In another, a floral green headboard set against our Wriggle Room wallpaper becomes a vibrant celebration of colour and contrast.

We also loved how the teal version of the fabric came to life when used on a Howard-style armchair. The pleated skirting reveals subtle shades of red, white and brown, bringing an artisanal richness to the room. On smaller surfaces, this fabric creates the impression of a one-off find, adding character and uniqueness to any interior.

Storytelling lies at the heart of our design philosophy. In a recent study room scheme, we box-framed a selection of Robina’s plates in Perspex against a bold blue linen. Paired with a matching chair, this thoughtful arrangement weaves a visual narrative, drawing a red thread between art and upholstery.

Whether through scatter cushions, trays or even a decorative mannequin, Robina’s Dinner Party brings a gentle sense of comfort and charm to the home. It is an effortless way to refresh a space and introduce a feeling of handcrafted joy. You can explore more of our collection here.
