The Araminta Room at The Whitby Hotel

Day to Day

Step inside the Araminta Room at The Whitby Hotel...

Tucked away in Midtown Manhattan, our newly refreshed Araminta Room is a charming escape from the pace of city life. This whimsical and thoughtfully designed space invites you to pause, connect and be inspired. With its high ceilings and imaginative décor, it is perfect for everything from intimate dinners and cocktail receptions to creative meetings and private events.

The centrepiece of the room is our enchanting Mythical Land mural, a bespoke wallpaper created especially for The Whitby Hotel by Kit Kemp Design Studio. Inspired by American Folk Art, the design is rich in intricate detail and movement, telling a story that unfolds across the walls. It was so admired that we later used it in our collection for Andrew Martin. Along the lower walls, we have paired it with Worlds Apart, a smart stripe from our GP & J Baker collection, to bring contrast and depth. The colours in the stripe echo those found in the mural above, creating a beautifully cohesive look.

Chairs upholstered with striped handles and finished with green wool on the upper third of the backrest help to lead the eye through the space. Neat piping along the edges gives them a refined, tailored appearance while enhancing the elegant silhouette. These chairs surround our Pit-A-Pat ‘New York’ table, created in collaboration with Schotten & Hansen. Crafted with care and attention to detail, the table features magnetic veneer inserts that form a vibrant, organic pattern in eight cheerful colours. Whether hosting a relaxed gathering or a celebratory dinner, it is a piece that brings people together.

In one corner, a pair of cosy tub chairs sit around a delightful ruler table, offering a perfect spot to enjoy a quiet cup of tea. The chairs are upholstered in two richly coloured wool fabrics, with a bold orange on the outer back and a soft green on the seat and inner back. Smart leather piping separates the two textures, adding an elegant finishing touch. Beneath your feet, the Deer Leap rug brings a soft sense of rhythm with its subtle geometric pattern, creating harmony throughout the space.

Along the back wall, mirrored panels reflect natural light and help to open up the room, while bold woodcut prints by Eileen Cooper add character and intrigue. The prints are framed together like an album, drawing the eye and inviting closer inspection.

Lighting plays an essential role in the atmosphere. A gentle, welcoming glow comes from carefully selected lamps and textured furnishings. Colourful lampshades, reminiscent of an artist’s palette, add a touch of fun, while three tall candlestick holders with bright orange candles run down the centre of the table, enhancing the inviting, celebratory feel.

And when it is time to dine, our bespoke Sailor’s Farewell china provides a final flourish of storytelling, adding personality and charm to every place setting.

We hope you will enjoy the Araminta Room as much as we do. Be sure to visit and experience it for yourself the next time you are in Midtown Manhattan.
