Something Borrowed

Day to Day

Uncover the charm of borrowed objects and how they can transform your space...

Whether gifted or discovered, borrowed items often carry a story. When introduced into a new space, they create a fresh emotional connection, infusing the room with meaningful memories. On today’s blog, we are sharing how such pieces have added character to our interiors, each one contributing its own chapter to the story of the space.

In the Dressing Room at the Royal Haymarket Theatre, we chose our Songbird wallpaper in plaster to bring a sense of calm and serenity. Flanking the fireplace, a pair of artworks feature framed vintage keys that once opened the doors to magnificent rooms. Today, they unlock a sea of new stories, resting within a room already rich with experience.

At Warren Street Hotel, historic balustrade mouldings have been thoughtfully transformed into sculptural table lamps in several of the bedrooms. Carefully sourced and expertly wired, they now serve as both functional lighting and captivating art.

For the Bloomsbury Publishing offices, we framed some of their most iconic books in vibrant mounts, allowing each title to speak for itself. Displayed together, they form a gallery wall that celebrates the cultural legacy of this renowned British publishing house.

Our spaces are curated with care, not only with our latest fabrics but with every individual element. We place great importance on ensuring our rooms feel like homes. In The Richmond Suite at The Soho Hotel, for example, we sourced an antique bureau that brings both substance and soul to the room, whispering untold Italian stories from the nineteenth century.

In Residence 21 at Ham Yard Hotel, the seating area features what may once have been ornamental gown purses. Now framed and adorned with delicate diamond and dotted patterns reminiscent of beadwork, these treasures have been reimagined as artwork, adding a unique charm to the room.

As you can see, there is no single formula for incorporating borrowed or found pieces into your home. Whether it is a set of antique keys, a cherished piece of furniture, or a collection of delicate objects, these additions bring authenticity and depth. Not only do they honour the stories of the past, but they also inspire the stories yet to come. We hope you feel inspired to bring such character into your own space.
