Magic has always been a powerful source of inspiration, adding an enchanting and uplifting quality to our designs. The magical elements we embrace are often subtle and unspoken, infusing a sense of intrigue. Today on the blog, we’d like to share our favourite ways in which we weave magic into our spaces.
One of the most magical natural materials is wood. Wood represents inner strength, stability and the ability to withstand challenges. It often features in our designs, as we deeply admire the craftsmanship involved in carving and weaving both wood and plant fibres. Henry Neville Wood’s explorers in the Drawing Room at Warren Street Hotel are among our favourite works crafted from wood.
Art plays a central role in our designs, as we love learning about the creative process behind the work of artists and the inspirations that fuel their creativity. Artists possess a unique kind of magic, transforming thoughts into art that resonates deeply with others. One of our favourite artists, Joe Tilson, delved into the ancient practice of alchemy, weaving themes of mythology, ecology and symbolism into his pieces. You will find several of his wonderful artworks thoughtfully placed throughout our hotels.
The sun, the stars and the moon are timeless symbols of magic, representing guidance, transformation and hidden powers. The phases of the moon are often used in rituals for manifesting, releasing and embracing new beginnings, while stars symbolise destiny and divine insight. We have incorporated these celestial elements throughout our designs with playful wallpapers, artwork and mirrors.
The act of planting, nurturing and harvesting connects us to nature’s rhythms, embodying transformation and abundance. In many cultures, plants are believed to possess healing properties and harvests are linked to rituals of gratitude and prosperity. This deep connection to the earth and its cycles makes plants and harvesting feel like a form of natural magic. We love harvesting vegetables and herbs from the rooftops and gardens of our hotels. Sprinkling live flowers and plants throughout our spaces adds a sense of magic as well.
Circles are powerful symbols of magic, representing wholeness, infinity and the cyclical nature of life. A circle has no beginning or end, making it a symbol of unity, eternity and the continuous flow of energy. Their endless shape reflects the connection between the physical and spiritual realms.
We hope you find ways to sprinkle some magic into your spaces!
