This time of year, flowers are in full bloom and so is Chelsea. For its twentieth anniversary, the free-to-attend flower festival Chelsea in Bloom is back, adorning shopfronts, restaurants and transforming the streets with creativity and floral artistry. As one of London’s most stylish and iconic neighbourhoods, it seems only fitting that the theme for its twentieth year is Flowers in Fashion, paying homage to Chelsea’s sartorial history. Join us as we showcase some of the most innovative displays featured in this year’s show.
Displayed on Sloane Street, Jane Austen appears adorned in a couture gown made from hydrangeas, roses, peonies and ferns, with her canine companion by her side.
Meanwhile, the iconic King’s Road features some show-stopping outfits that we could only dream of wearing. It was difficult to peel our eyes away from one dress made entirely from white hydrangeas, peonies and roses. Other storefronts and shop windows burst with colour and intricate floral details, each one a unique celebration of creativity.
We could especially imagine ourselves striding down the catwalk that is the King’s Road in a pair of Anthurium shoes and a flamboyant feathered dress.
The King’s Road has long been at the forefront of fashion movements, so it came as no surprise that a punk rocker made an appearance. This five-metre-tall structure features a vibrant mohawk made from dyed pampas grass leaves, while the face is formed from press clippings from the 1960s and 70s.
A giant pair of riding boots and a rearing horse can be found outside Dubarry of Ireland, created in collaboration with floral designer Early Hours London. The display pays tribute to Dubarry’s heritage in equestrian fashion.
A week in the making, a woven handbag installation fit for any fashionista’s dream now graces Sloane Square with style and splendour. Embellished with paper flowers, lilies and disco balls, it is a true showstopper.
Other storefronts are crowned with magnificent floral archways, each one expressing its own unique flair.
Inspired by Sir Elton John’s iconic look, oversized pairs of sunglasses can be spotted along Sloane Street.
Meanwhile, the giant lipstick and red high-heeled shoe made with red roses and carnations have become iconic symbols of this year’s event.
We have loved seeing fashion brands and florists come together to transform the streets of Chelsea into a vibrant celebration of blooms. It is a stunning showcase of collaboration, creativity and thoughtful design.
