At our Design Studio, statement headboards are more than just a design feature. They are the focal point of any bedroom. Nowhere is this more evident than in Room 1508 at The Whitby Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.
A celebration of colour, texture and craftsmanship, this room is an enchanting yet refined escape. Every detail has been carefully curated to create a space that feels playful, elegant and entirely unique. At the centre of it all is the remarkable hand-embroidered headboard, the true star of the space.
Created by one of our talented textile artists, the headboard depicts a huntsman nestled within a magical woodland scene. With layers of fabric and intricately textured threads, her appliqué work brings the scene to life with depth and enchantment. Coordinating cushions echo the imagery from the headboard, tying the look together and adding an extra layer of charm.
To complement this captivating centrepiece, we chose a soft red wall linen. Its gentle tone enhances the headboard’s rich palette while allowing the embroidery to take centre stage.
The headboard’s colour story flows seamlessly throughout the room. Framing the floor-to-ceiling windows are curtains in our Travelling Light fabric, designed for Christopher Farr. The bold geometric print adds movement and visual energy, drawing the eye toward sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline.
A custom sofa upholstered in grey wool from Holland & Sherry introduces a note of calm and sophistication. Red leather piping adds a touch of contrast and a subtle nod to the headboard’s vivid hues. For added texture and warmth, armchairs and cushions are upholstered in an Aztec-inspired fabric by Clarence House, lending a sense of global character to the space.
Next to the bed, a large artwork captures a scenic seaside view. Framed in vibrant, playful colours that mirror the artwork itself, this piece adds an unexpected and joyful accent to the room.
A built-in bookshelf along the back wall adds a welcoming, personal touch. Whether you choose to curl up with a book in the cosy setting or step out onto the balcony to take in the city, the space invites you to relax, dream and feel inspired.
We hope this room captures your heart and sparks your imagination. Don’t miss the chance to see it for yourself the next time you’re in New York.
