Art is a powerful medium of expression and the work of female artists has profoundly shaped how we perceive the world. On today’s blog, we are highlighting four extraordinary women whose unique artistic visions inspire us to create, dream and recognise the strength of craftsmanship.
Tess Newall is a talented decorative painter renowned for her intricate hand-painted murals and unique designs. Deeply rooted in tradition, her work draws inspiration from historical patterns, folklore and classic design elements. Having collaborated with Tess for many years, we remain inspired by her talent for creating interiors that evoke nostalgia while celebrating the Bloomsbury legacy, showcasing the timeless influence of craftsmanship and creativity.
Robina Jack is a storyteller in clay and paint. Her ceramics come to life with animals, intricate patterns, and a nostalgic charm, reflecting a childhood spent in Oxfordshire, where nature shaped her artistry. Treasured like pages from an old tale, her work now extends beyond ceramics. In collaboration with GP & J Baker, we transformed her designs into fabric and wallpaper, wrapping walls and furniture in the magic of her world — where art and life beautifully intertwine.
Margit Wittig is a sculptor known for her handcrafted creations that seamlessly merge form, function and artistic expression. Her collection includes unique ceramic sculptural lamps that exude originality, with designs ranging from birds to expressive faces that surprise and intrigue. Her ability to combine fine art with functional design inspires us to push the boundaries of creative expression and together, cast a magical glow in our spaces.
Clio Peppiatt is a sustainable fashion designer known for her exquisite appliqué and intricate beadwork. Our beloved Terrace Suite at The Soho Hotel continues to enchant, its headboard adorned with celestial, musical whimsy — a testament to Clio’s signature craftsmanship. We’ve long admired Clio’s unique style, masterful beadwork and vibrant energy. With a keen eye for detail, she transforms fabric into stunning works of art, capturing a sense of wonder. Her creativity serves as an inspiring reminder of the impact women like her have on design.
